In Memoriam, Richard Black, 1947-2014

Richard BlackIt is with a great sadness that we share the news that Richard Black, our Executive Vice President and General Manager, passed away this past Saturday.

As a respected leader at Honor Foods and Burris Logistics for the past twenty-three years; Richard set the standards and direction for us all. It is an immeasurable loss for those of us that have had the pleasure of working with him. Please keep Richard’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Richard served his country proudly in the United States Army, including a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He graduated from Goldey Beacom College in 1971, where he then began a career in the food industry that lasted for over 40 years. He spent the last 23 years working for Burris Logistics; currently serving as Executive Vice President and General Manager at Honor Foods, the redistribution division of Burris Logistics.

Richard enjoyed sports, lettering in four different sports at Harrington High School with his highlight being part of the football and track teams that won the Henlopen Conference Championship his senior year. He was an active member of the Harrington High School Alumni Association, serving as President during the 1974-75 year and had a scholarship named in his honor in the year 2000. Richard collected antique American Flyer trains and was a member of the Train Collectors Association. Richard could always be found outside in his yard and would spend hours tending to his ever growing rose bush collection. He loved spending time with his family, especially the trips taken to Topsail Island, NC.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Linda; devoted daughter, Jennifer Gallagher and her husband Patrick of Dover; sister-in-law, Franny Bergold of Felton; and many extended family members and friends.
